When it comes to the pickup truck market, there are three names that stand tall above the rest. The RAM series is one of them, as are the Ford F-Series and Chevy Silverado lineup. While the 1500/150 models might be more popular than the heavy-duty models, trucks like the RAM 2500 and Ford F-250 are still some of the best in the overarching pickup truck class. We thought we’d see how our heavy-duty truck measures up to one of these other stalwart vehicles by pitting the 2022 RAM 2500 against the 2022 Ford F-250.
When it comes to power, the RAM 2500 not only dominates the Ford F-250, but it delivers best-in-class standard gas horsepower by generating up to 410 hp. The Ford F-250 only generates 385 hp, so the RAM 2500 definitely gets a leg up. Overall performance is further enhanced by the RAM having the largest available fuel tank on crew cab models, offering 2 gallons more than the F-250 with its 50-gal tank.
The two trucks go a bit back and forth in terms of who has the advantage when it comes to towing. On one hand, the RAM 2500 offers slightly more maximum capacity with 15,220 lbs. to the F-250’s 15,000 max. However, the F-250 kicks things off with 12,300 lbs. max on the lower end, whereas the 2500 dips down to 10,520 lbs. As for payload, the F-250 unfortunately takes the cake on both ends.
The RAM 2500 is packed full of outstanding features and tech when it comes to towing. For example, it offers a class-exclusive Rear Auto-Level Air Suspension system as an available feature that automatically adapts to things like your load shifting or the camber of the road. Other great towing tech includes the Trailer 360° Surround View Camera, the Digital Rearview Mirror with Tow Mode and the class-exclusive Adaptive Forward Lighting System.
If you’re in the market for a heavy-duty pickup truck, then we definitely think you should consider the 2022 RAM 2500. It’s our recommendation for obvious reasons, but as the information shows you here it has the specifications and features to back up our recommendation.
