When it comes to the midsize utility vehicle segments, you can find all kinds of different vehicles that slide under the same umbrella. Some models are better equipped to carry cargo while others offer more space for passengers, to give the best example. That’s the tale of the 2022 Dodge Durango and 2022 Honda Passport. Both of these models are quite popular in the midsize segments, but one offers extra seats while the other offers better base cargo capacity. Let’s dive a little deeper into how these two models compare to one another!
Both models are powered by nearly identical engines, though with subtle enough differences to set them apart. Beneath the hood of the Durango is a 3.6L V6 while the Passport houses a 3.5L V6. Whether or not that slight difference in size is the cause, the Durango does offer slightly more horsepower with its 293 compared to the 280 of the Honda Passport. The latter does offer an extra two pound feet of torque, however, as the Dodge SUV generates 260 lb-ft. compared to the 262 lb-ft. of the Honda.
Although the Dodge Durango gets the slight edge in power and performance, the Honda Passport returns fire with a slight advantage in fuel efficiency. The Durango manages to achieve 19 miles per gallon through the city and 26 mpg on the highway, for a combined 21 mpg, while the Passport achieves 20 mpg city, 25 mpg highway and 22 mpg combined. Still, the Durango offers a larger fuel tank by 5.1 gallons, enabling it to travel much further on a single tank. 77 miles further through the city or 152 mi on the highway, to be more exact.
The major differences between the two vehicles, however, come in terms of seating & cargo as we already mentioned. The 2022 Dodge Durango offers three rows of seating for up to 7, while the 2022 Honda Passport is a two-row midsize crossover with seating for up to 5. This translates to base cargo capacity, as the Passport offers 41.2 cubic feet compared to the 17.2 cu. ft. of the Durango. Even still, the Durango offers more maximum capacity with its 85.1 cu. ft. compared to the 77.7 cu. ft. of the Passport.
